Emotional strength ...force
octubre 15, 2017
With enough emotional strength, we can advance our lives in incredible ways, despite the adversities we face. And you do not have to be born strong emotionally. You can develop this vital feature with practice. Here are two key rituals to practice daily whether or not you are a person with remarkable emotional strength:
1. They use to love to feed their unit to make things difficult. Life is not easy, so you must do difficult things to be happy in life. The things no one else is doing. The things that scare you. Things that others can not do for you. The things that make you wonder how long you can hold on and move on.
Because those are the things that define you. Those are the things that mark the difference between what exists and what is alive, between knowing the way and walking along the road, between a life of defeat and a life full of happiness and success.
Adversity is inevitable, and it is very much like entering a turbulent windstorm. As you struggle to overcome it, you not only gain strength, but you tear away all the essential parts of you that can not be torn apart.
Once you get out of the storm, you see yourself as you really are in the purest state, maintaining the passions and values that move you, and little else. These are the lusts that matter: inner love and the vows that define you. It is this kind of love that propels you forward and even when things get difficult. It is this kind of love that strengthens the mind, body, and soul.
2. They are relentlessly consistent. Years ago, when I was extremely focused on training physical strength, I gradually learned that you can not really be committed to any goal if you have a weak mind. To combat this, I wrote two simple questions in two notes and pasted one in the mirror of my bathroom and the other inside my gym locker:
- How many workouts have you lost because of your mind, not your body, told you that you were very tired?
- How many repetitions of training have you omitted because of your mind, not your body, said: "Nine repetitions are enough. Do not you worry about the tenth?"
To this day, the answer to both questions is probably thousands of most people, including myself. The weakness of the mind is a true killer of dreams, and the only way to correct this weakness in daily practice.
Too often we think that emotional strength is about how we respond to extreme circumstances. Did you recover after your business failed and left you in deep debt? Can you keep your life together even after suffering a major and debilitating loss?
There is no doubt that extreme circumstances test our courage, determination and emotional strength, but what about common and everyday circumstances?
Like all muscles of the body, the mind must exercise to gain strength. It needs to be constantly worked to grow and develop over time. If you have not pushed yourself into thousands of small roads over time, of course, you are going to fall apart on a day when things become really challenging.
But it does not have to be like that.
Choose to go to the gym when it is easier to sleep. Choose to do the tenth repetition when it would be easier to quit at nine. Choose to create something special when it is easier to consume something mediocre. Choose to raise your hand and ask that additional question when it would be easier to remain silent. Show yourself, in a thousand ways, that you have the guts to enter the ring and fight with life.
Emotional strength is built through many small victories. These are the individual choices we make each day to build our "emotional strength" muscles. We all want this kind of strength, but you can not think about it. You have to do something about it religiously. It is your daily actions that demonstrate your emotional and mental strength.
The bottom line is that when things get tough for most people, they find something easier to do. When things get tough for emotionally strong people, they find a way to stay on track.
And, of course, if you are struggling with some of this, know that you are not alone. Many of us are there with you, working hard to feel better, thinking more clearly and regaining our lives.
